In the Bible, there are several gospels listed, but only one of them is meant for us today. It can be confusing for those who are seeking salvation to know which gospel to follow, as these gospels were given to different people who lived in different times and under different circumstances than us. Below are the different gospels that are listed in the Bible:
The ten gospels mentioned in the Bible:
- The Gospel of the grace of God (Acts 20:24; 1 Cor. 15:1-4; Gal 1:8-12)
- The Gospel, according to Matthew
- The Gospel, according to Mark
- The Gospel, according to Luke
- The Gospel, according to John
- Abrahams Gospel (Gal. 3:8)
- Gospel of Caleb and Joshua (Heb. 3:17-4:2)
- Gospel of the Jews in the Millennium (Isa 52:7; Matt 24:14)
- Gospel of the Kingdom (Matt. 4:23)
- The everlasting Gospel of the Tribulation (Rev.14:6-7).
Man-made gospels of religion.
Man-made “gospels” appear throughout history. Some are a perversion of the bible. They are so close to the truth that it is difficult to differentiate the truth from the lie. Almost everything sounds right, looks right, and feels right, but there is just enough lie put into it for unsuspecting minds to think it is biblical. Others are so blatantly different that anyone with a basic knowledge of the bible couldn’t miss it with their eyes shut. i. e. The gospel of the grace of God
We live in the biblical time known as The Age of Grace. Our concern needs to be with the Gospel of the grace of God. This gospel is introduced in the Book of Acts 20 and defined in Galatians 1:8-12; and 1 Corinthians 15:1-4.
Under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, Paul writes about the Gospel of the Grace of God. Paul preached this gospel everywhere he went. Before Paul knew about the gospel of grace, Jesus preached the Gospel of the Kingdom. The Gospel of the Kingdom speaks of the Messiah ruling as the King. The Jews rejected Jesus’ offer to be the King and set up His kingdom. They could not imagine how a lowly carpenter could be the king. With Paul, God offered salvation and the forgiveness of sin.
Paul’s gospel was NOT the same as the one the Lord Jesus Christ preached during His earthly ministry. Neither was it the Gospel preached by the Apostles. The gospel Paul preached was for the salvation of the entire world of individuals. The gospel Jesus preached was for national salvation. The long-awaited King had arrived, and he would kick out the Romans. This is why you see the Book of Matthew speaking repeatedly about “The kingdom of heaven.” In Luke, you see much talk about “the kingdom of God.” The gospel Jesus preached is about a king and a kingdom. Paul doesn’t speak about this. He speaks about Christ dying for our sins, According to the Scriptures, being buried and rising again on the third day according to the scriptures. Paul does not emphasize a Kingdom. Paul emphasizes the scriptures.
The Gospel examined.
Christ died for our sins.
The first detail of the Gospel of Grace is Jesus Christ sacrificed Himself in our place to make payment for our sins. This includes all sins of the past, present or future. He paid for my sins and the sins of every person who ever was or whoever will be. He paid for your sins as well. Christ died to save sinners.
He was buried
After Jesus suffered death on the cross, He was buried just like any other person of that time. His body was prepared and placed in the ordinary grave.
He rose again.
This is the final seal of approval by God the Father that the payment for our sins is complete and accepted.
According to the scriptures
There are over 300 prophesies about Jesus Christ. These prophesies reveal God's plan for how Jesus would eventually pay for man's sins. It would be through the sacrificial death of Jesus—this way, God provides for the salvation of any person on an individual level. The death of Jesus is a complete and acceptable payment for all sins. Jesus Christ is the complete, acceptable, and ONLY payment God will accept for sins. Unless you have His payment applied to your sins, you will suffer eternally as the spiritual payment for your sins.
The Gospel and You
The Bible says, "...if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." - Romans 10:9-13
