Can a person be born a Christian?
There have been times where I have been out knocking on doors where I have gotten the cold shoulder. Secretly, I don’t blame the people because I don’t like it when strangers come up to my door, especially when they want to come and talk about a subject I was not really prepared for. I have seen many tactics to give me the “brush off.” I always think about the words and what they said.
One of the most unusual “side-steps” I have witnessed has been someone telling me, “I was born a Christian.” I have heard people tell me, “I’m a Lutheran;” “I’m a Methodists;” “I’m a Catholic;” etc. etc. I have even heard people tell me emphatically, “I’m a Christian,” but on few occasions I have had people tell me they were “born a Christian.”
Nobody is born into this world as a Christian. It is true that the Bible teaches babies who die won’t go to hell up to a certain point, the Bible never teaches that anyone is born into this world as a Christian. People who think they are born as a Christian generally insinuate they are born into a Christian family. Their parents are Christians. They were raised as a Christian. They grew up in the church, but they are not Christians unless they have accepted the blood atonement of Jesus Christ for their sins.
Yes, the Bible teaches that you must be born again to see the kingdom of God. The key word being “again.” There is a second birth that one must have in order to become saved and can claim the title of “Christian.” Anyone who has been “born again” knows this and would never claim that they were born into this world as a Christian. They know that they never came out of their mommy’s womb as a Christian. They understand what it takes to become a Christian.
