I want to get saved
“Mr. Jones, I want to be saved. Can you save me?”, said a young man one day.
“Why do you want to be saved?”, replied Mr. Jones.
“What?”
“Why do you want to get saved?”, Mr. Jones said to him again.
“I don’t know”, said the young man hesitantly.
Mr. Jones replied, “Then I can’t help you. Why don’t you go back home for a week and think about it and then come back and tell me why you want this?”
With that, the young man left. He felt somewhat rejected, but at the same time he was hopeful. He had not totally been rejected. All he had to do was to come up with a reason for wanting to be saved.
Mr. Jones had gone back to his very busy schedule. Time passed by and Mr. Jones actually forgot about the incident. One week later, the young man came to Mr. Jones house and said, “Mr. Jones, I know!”
“Know what?”, Mr Jones had totally forgot the conversation the week before.
“I know!”
“I’m sorry. What do you know?”
“I know why.”
“Why what?”
“Why I want to be saved?”
“Oh”, said Mr. Jones as he suddenly remembered their conversation the week before. “Well, why do you want to be saved?”
The answer the young man gave to Mr. Jones surprised him. It was simple, direct and right on the spot.
“I don’t want to go to hell.”
You cannot get saved to join a crowd, church or group. Getting saved doesn’t make you a member of an elite club. Getting saved is escaping hell. Mr. Jones said, “Well, I can help you then.” He led the man to the Lord Jesus Christ. The young man knew why he wanted to be saved.
