Everyone needs to be saved from something
“Saved” what does it really mean? If a person was about to fall off a cliff and somebody grabbed his hand preventing him from falling to great injury or death we would say that he had been saved. We would say that the person who grabbed his hand was his savior. To be ‘saved’ means that someone has prevented another person’s injury, a person’s death or to be saved from some other great waste or loss.
In Christianity, we are dealing with being saved from the eternal result of our sin. The Bible tells us “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:” Hebrews 9:27. This is not a judgment for deciding IF you will be saved. Rather it touches on HOW BAD a punishment you deserve because of your sin. You can be saved from this judgment and that eternal punishment, but you have to want to be saved.
It is said of Jesus: “But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;” Hebrews 10:12. Again God’s word, the Bibles says: “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” Acts 4:12. Simply, our only hope is the sacrifice that Jesus made for our sins.
Every person on this earth is going to die. But what happens to us after we die. Many different religions believe a myriad of different things, but it really doesn’t matter. What matters is what God believes. If we are to be saved, we must believe what He believes. He believes that Jesus died as our substitute to pay for our sins; His own son died for us. God accepts Jesus’ payment for us, but do we agree to accept the fact that Jesus died for us? That is the real question.
To be saved, a person must first agree with God that they are a sinner, unworthy to be in His presence. Secondly, they must repent of their sin, they have to be sorry that they are not worthy to meet God’s standard of perfection. Finally, they must ask Jesus to forgive them and save them from their hopeless state. Based on this action alone, is what God, the Creator of all things, looks for in a person in order to give them eternal life.
If you are willing to agree with God, you must tell him so. You must pray to Him telling Him what is in your heart. You must pray what is called, “The Sinners Prayer.” It does not need to be said word for word. But in the best way you know how, follow it’s example.
