Each moment brings us one moment closer to Hell.
Each person has only so much time allotted to them to live upon this earth. From the moment that a person was conceived, the clock of life began counting down. When our time runs out, we are either going to go to hell or to heaven.
While it is true that we have to make decisions every day, the greatest decision of our life is if we will decide to go to hell or heaven. Every decision we make from birth to death affects that most important of all decisions.
If you ask most people, they will tell you that they would rather to go to heaven instead of hell. Only a very few proud people will say they want to go to hell. Most people understand the concept of heaven and hell. They realize that heaven is a good place and hell is a bad place. In fact, they understand hell to be such a bad place that they would do anything to keep from going there. Why then do so many people go to hell? Because they have not made the choice to go to heaven. The choice is their own to make.
Since we have an unknown amount of time allotted to us in life to make the choice to go to heaven or hell, it is wise to make it early in life. We don’t know if we will be alive tomorrow or not. When we are young, we think we have all the time in the world to make a decision about eternal matters. Unfortunately, this is not the case. We don’t know if we will have a tomorrow or not.
Not very many young people have experienced a sudden death in the family. Not many have had a friend suddenly die. But of those few young people who can say they have experienced this tragedy, I am sure you can get them to agree that life is fragile and can be gone suddenly.
Every second that clicks off the clock of our lives, leads us one step closer to hell. Each person living today , is on a collision course with hell unless they have chosen to go to heaven. It doesn’t matter if they believe that or not. It doesn’t even matter if they believe in God or not. The important thing is that God believes in Himself; He believes that man is on a road that leads to hell. He is really only concerned with His opinion and has little regard for what man believes when it runs contrary to His opinion. He already told man the truth. He tells man what he must do to change his final destination. It is up to man to make his own choice.
In the Bible God tells us that “broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat,… …and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” (Matt. 7:13-14) The road to hell is broad while the road to heaven is narrow. Why is this? It is because man was born on the road to hell. To this statement, people often say, “I didn’t do anything to deserve hell, why am I going there?” Unfortunately, this is because of poor choices our ancestors made. They made choices that brought sin upon all of their progeny (Psa. 51:5; Isa. 64:6). So, we are born in sin, and this puts us on the “Highway to Hell” (AC/DC Rock band, 1979).
Not only are we born in sin, but it is our nature to sin. We do not naturally do good. We must be taught to do right, but we need not be taught to do wrong. From the moment we were born, we have naturally been naughty. We naturally do wrong, and need to be corrected for our wrong actions. It is absurd to think that leaving a newborn baby to itself would produce a model citizen. We already know that children who grow up without adult supervision or guidance tend to be troublesome. So it is with you and I. We don’t realize we are have done wrong because we have never been taught otherwise.
We naturally sin. It is unnatural for us to do good. We don’t even think to do good unless we are taught to. Therefore, our natural path is the one that leads to hell. Everybody born starts off on the path to hell. If they are going to go to heaven, they must get off that path and get on the right one. If they want to continue on the way to hell, all they need to do is–NOTHING. They must simply make no change in their ways.
If you want to get on the right path, you must first agree with God that you are a sinner (i.e. you naturally sin.). If left to yourself, you will go to hell. Then you must ask Him to forgive you for the sin nature you possess. Ask Him to put you on the right path to heaven, and trust Him to do so instead of doubting Him. It is a matter of believing on God in such a way that you agree with Him:
- Agree with Him that you are a sinner.
- Agree with Him that you are going to hell.
- Agree with Him that He can put you on the right path because He has power over death.
- Agree with Him that you are going to heaven if you trust only in Him.
Lord Jesus. I’m a sinner. I’m born a sinner because it’s my nature to sin. If I don’t do something, I’m going to hell. I know you can put me on the path to heaven. I have complete confidence in you to do so if I ask. Right now, I’m asking if you will do that very thing. Amen!
